Chapter 3 - The Wreckage

The silver sedan smashed through the metal guardrail with a sickening crunch.

Gravity took over as the car plummeted down the steep embankment.

David braced for the final brutal impact.

The vehicle slammed into a cluster of thick pine trees and came to a violent halt.

Shattered glass rained down on the dashboard.

David groaned and unbuckled his seatbelt.

He turned around and was relieved to see Leo securely strapped in and unhurt.

Sarah kicked her jammed door open and stumbled out into the dirt.

She quickly pulled her son from the smoking wreckage.

David crawled out with a bleeding forehead.

He looked up the hill and saw three men in dark suits stepping out of the black SUV.

The men were holding suppressed tactical rifles.

Sarah whispered that they needed to move into the dense forest immediately.

They ran through the thick brush as bullets began tearing through the tree bark around them.

David had never run so fast in his entire life.

They found temporary shelter inside an abandoned concrete storm drain.

The sound of heavy boots crunching on leaves echoed right above them.

Sarah handed David a small silver pistol.

She told him she only had four bullets left in the magazine.

David's hands shook uncontrollably as he gripped the cold metal.

He had never fired a gun before in his life.

Suddenly, David's smartwatch lit up brightly in the dark tunnel.

The screen displayed an incoming voice message from his own supervisor at the agency.

The message played automatically on speakerphone.

His supervisor's voice echoed loudly, ordering David to keep Sarah exactly where she was until the cleanup crew arrived.
