Chapter 9 - The Trap Springs

Vanessa's finger tightened on the trigger, her eyes wild with murderous fury.
Before she could fire the weapon, Leo threw his entire body weight forward.
His wooden chair shattered against the concrete floor, but it gave him the momentum he needed.
He violently tackled Vanessa around the knees, knocking her off balance.
The silver pistol fired blindly into the ceiling, the deafening gunshot echoing through the warehouse.
Leo scrambled to pin Vanessa down, but she struck him hard across the face with the heavy gun barrel.
Leo fell back, bleeding profusely, as Vanessa aimed the weapon directly at his head.
"I am going to enjoy watching you die," Vanessa spat, wiping blood from her own lip.
Suddenly, the massive steel doors of the warehouse were violently blown off their hinges.
Blinding spotlights flooded the dark room, accompanied by the sounds of a dozen sirens.
"FBI, drop the weapon right now!" a booming voice commanded over a megaphone.
A heavily armed SWAT team swarmed into the building, their laser sights aimed directly at Vanessa's chest.

She looked at the laser dots, realized she had lost everything, and slowly dropped the gun to the floor.
Leo crawled over to his mother, wrapping his arms around her tightly as the police rushed in.
