Chapter 10 - The Peaceful Morning

The FBI agents quickly arrested Vanessa and placed her in heavy steel handcuffs.

Paramedics rushed into the warehouse to treat Leo's injuries, assuring Mrs. Rose that he would be perfectly fine.

Leo held his mother's hand tightly, tears of immense relief streaming down his bruised face.

"I am so sorry I pushed you away in the rain, Mom," Leo whispered softly.

Mrs. Rose smiled warmly and kissed his forehead, telling him she understood everything he did to protect her.

With Vanessa's criminal syndicate completely dismantled, Leo was granted full immunity for his cooperation.

Six months later, the dark nightmare was finally nothing more than a distant memory.

Leo used the cash from the envelope to buy a beautiful, quiet house in the sunny suburbs.

Mrs. Rose sat on the wide wooden porch, sipping a hot cup of tea while listening to the birds sing.

Leo walked out of the front door, looking healthy and genuinely happy for the first time in years.

He sat beside her, resting his head on her shoulder as they watched the peaceful morning unfold together.

They were finally free, completely safe, and ready to start their lives over again.

Later that afternoon, Mrs. Rose walked down the long driveway to check the metal mailbox.

She reached inside and pulled out a thick, unmarked black envelope with no return address.

Inside the envelope was a freshly printed photograph of her and Leo drinking tea on the porch just hours ago.

Written on the back of the photograph in dark red ink was a single, terrifying sentence.

"Vanessa was only the beginning."
