Chapter 7 - The Hostage Exchange

Mrs. Rose felt the blood drain from her face as Vanessa continued to laugh on the phone.

"I also have your precious Leo sitting right next to me with a gun to his head," Vanessa warned.

Leo's muffled voice shouted in the background, telling his mother to run away and hide.

"Bring the flash drive to the abandoned shipping docks by midnight, or I pull the trigger," Vanessa demanded.

The call abruptly ended, leaving Mrs. Rose standing frozen on the sidewalk.

She knew it was a trap, but a mother would gladly walk into hell to save her child.

At exactly midnight, she walked into the dark, empty warehouse near the freezing water.

Vanessa was standing in the center of the room, holding a silver pistol against Leo's temple.

Leo was tied securely to a wooden chair, his face bruised and bleeding from a recent beating.

"Throw the drive on the floor and kick it over to me," Vanessa ordered with a wicked smirk.

Leo shook his head frantically, pleading with his mother through tear-filled eyes.

Mrs. Rose pulled the small black flash drive from her pocket.

She took a deep breath, dropped the device onto the concrete, and slid it across the floor.

Vanessa stepped off the drive, picked it up, and immediately aimed her gun at Mrs. Rose.

"You really thought I would let either of you leave here alive?" Vanessa sneered.
