Chapter 8 - The Ultimate Sacrifice
Vanessa backed away slightly, keeping the gun pointed firmly at Mrs. Rose's chest.
She pulled a sleek laptop from a nearby table and plugged the flash drive into the port.
"Once I confirm the offshore accounts are safe, I am going to shoot you both," Vanessa promised.
Leo struggled violently against his ropes, desperate to free himself and protect his mother.
Mrs. Rose simply stood still, looking at her son with a calm and reassuring smile.
She was not afraid of the gun, and she was not afraid of Vanessa.
Vanessa stared at the computer screen as the files began to load automatically.
Suddenly, the laptop screen flashed a violent, blinding red color.
A loud alarm began blaring from the computer speakers.
"What is happening to my network?" Vanessa screamed in absolute panic.
She aggressively typed on the keyboard, but the system was completely locked out.
Mrs. Rose's smile grew wider as she watched the wealthy woman lose her mind.
"Leo did not give me the financial records, Vanessa," Mrs. Rose said calmly.

Vanessa let out a scream of pure rage and raised her gun to kill the old woman.
