Chapter 6 - The Desperate Chase

Mrs. Rose spun around and ran deeper into the crowded train station.
She pushed past angry commuters and dodging heavy luggage carts.
Her lungs burned as she forced her old legs to move faster than they had in years.
She heard the heavy footsteps of the suited men echoing right behind her.
A departing train blew its loud horn, signaling that the doors were about to close.
Mrs. Rose threw herself into the train car just as the metal doors slid shut.
The men slammed their fists against the glass, glaring at her as the train pulled away.
She collapsed into an empty seat, gasping for air and thanking God for her narrow escape.
She got off at the end of the line and bought a cheap burner phone from a corner store.
Leo's letter had included a specific phone number for a trustworthy FBI agent.
She dialed the numbers carefully, her hands still shaking from adrenaline.
The line rang three times before someone finally picked up.
"Agent Miller, I have the evidence against Vanessa," Mrs. Rose said breathlessly.

A chilling, familiar laugh echoed through the speaker.
"Agent Miller is currently tied to a chair, Mrs. Rose," Vanessa replied softly.
