Chapter 9 - The Final Stand

The loud thunder cracked violently across the pitch-black sky.

Ethan stared at his brother with absolute, paralyzed shock.

"Your late wife was completely unfaithful to you before she died," Marcus revealed cruelly.

"I forged the DNA paternity tests myself just to watch you raise a stranger's child for years."

Ethan looked at the crying baby dangling dangerously over the raging river.

His expression did not change to anger, betrayal, or disgust.

"I do not care about biology or blood, Marcus," Ethan said with fierce, unwavering devotion.

"I fed him, I held him when he was sick, and I love him with all my heart."

"He is my son."

While Marcus was entirely distracted by Ethan's emotional confession, Sarah made her stealthy move.

She had used her tactical training to silently crawl through the tall, wet grass along the cliff edge.

She emerged from the dark shadows directly behind Marcus without making a sound.

Sarah lunged forward and wrapped her arms tightly around the crying baby.

She yanked Leo completely out of Marcus's grasp and rolled backward into the safe mud.

Marcus roared in massive frustration and lunged toward Sarah to get the baby back.

Ethan sprinted forward like a bullet and tackled his brother with full, unrestrained force.

The two angry men slid violently through the slippery mud toward the deadly edge.

Marcus lost his footing on the wet, mossy rocks near the drop.

He slipped over the cliff, but his hand desperately shot out and grabbed Sarah's ankle.
