Chapter 7 - The Double Cross

Marcus froze completely as he felt the cold metal gun press against his skull.
"You used me, Marcus," Victoria screamed with angry tears streaming down her face.
"You promised me we would be together, but you were just setting me up to take the fall."
Marcus slowly and carefully raised his empty hands into the air.
"Put the gun down, Victoria, we can still fix this and get the money," Marcus lied smoothly.
"Ethan kicked me out into the storm with absolutely nothing," she sobbed angrily.
"I have nothing left to lose anymore, so I am going to end this right now."
Sarah saw a brief, desperate window of opportunity to save the child.
She slowly backed toward the wooden crib to protect the sleeping baby from the crossfire.
Marcus suddenly spun around with terrifying, military-level speed.
He violently slapped the silver revolver completely out of Victoria's shaking hand.
The gun clattered loudly across the wooden floor and slid under the bed.
Marcus grabbed Victoria by the throat and threw her violently against the hard plaster wall.
Victoria collapsed to the ground, completely unconscious and bleeding from her forehead.
Marcus turned his furious, crazy eyes back toward Sarah.
He lunged forward and shoved Sarah incredibly hard against the wooden dresser.
Sarah hit her head on the mirror frame and fell to the floor in a dizzy, painful haze.

Marcus did not even try to shoot her while she was down.
Instead, he grabbed crying baby Leo from the crib and ran out into the stormy night.
