Chapter 6 - The Dead Brother

The bright beam of the flashlight illuminated a face covered in old, faded burn scars.

It was definitely Marcus.

Ethan's supposedly dead brother was standing right in front of her in the flesh.

"I knew Ethan's late wife hired a private spy before she passed away," Marcus said with a cruel smile.

"But I never expected you to play the role of the humble maid so flawlessly."

Sarah raised the heavy brass lamp like a baseball bat, refusing to show any fear.

"You faked your death to steal the entire family inheritance," Sarah deduced quickly.

"You used Victoria as a naive pawn to get rid of the true heir to the fortune."

Marcus laughed a dark, evil laugh and took a slow step forward into the room.

"Victoria is just a greedy fool who wanted Ethan's money all to herself," Marcus mocked.

"She actually thought I was going to run away with her after we got rid of the kid."

He reached into his dark trench coat and pulled out a heavy, suppressed handgun.

"Now I am going to finish the job and officially blame the crazy undercover maid," he threatened.

Sarah prepared to throw the lamp and fight for her life and the baby's life.

Suddenly, the beam of another flashlight cut through the darkness of the hallway.

Victoria stepped into the doorway right behind Marcus.

She was soaking wet from the pouring rain and holding a shiny silver revolver.

But Victoria did not aim the deadly weapon at Sarah.

She pressed the cold steel barrel directly against the back of Marcus's head.
