Chapter 4 - The Ghost of the Past

Ethan stared at the jagged scar on the screen for a very long time.

His strong hands began to shake uncontrollably.

Sarah stepped closer and looked at the paused video frame over his shoulder.

"Do you know who that masked man is?" Sarah asked quietly.

Ethan swallowed hard and looked out the dark, rain-streaked window.

"My older brother Marcus had a scar exactly like that on his right wrist," Ethan explained.

"He got it in a terrible car accident when we were just teenagers."

Sarah frowned in deep confusion.

"Why would your brother want to hurt your innocent baby?" she asked.

Ethan turned around with a haunted, devastated look in his dark eyes.

"Because Marcus died in a tragic boating accident three years ago," Ethan whispered.

The room suddenly felt as cold as a frozen winter night.

If Marcus was truly dead, then a ghost had just handed Victoria the iron.

Or someone had gone through an incredible amount of trouble to completely fake their own death.

Ethan grabbed his heavy coat and headed straight for the bedroom door.

"Lock this room and do not open it for anyone under any circumstances," Ethan commanded.

"I am going to track down Victoria and get the absolute truth out of her."

He ran down the wooden stairs and drove his car away into the stormy night.

Sarah locked the heavy oak door and sat down in the rocking chair with little Leo.

Ten minutes later, the electricity in the entire mansion was suddenly and deliberately cut off.
