Chapter 7 - The Devil's Deal

Sophie coughed violently as the toxic gas burned her throat and watered her eyes.

Dominic grabbed two gas masks from a hidden wall compartment and shoved one onto her face.

He carefully placed a specialized pediatric respirator over the baby's tiny mouth to protect his fragile lungs.

"They are going to breach the door in ten seconds," Dominic said, racking his shotgun loudly.

"There is a ventilation shaft behind that bookshelf, you have to crawl out with the boy right now."

Sophie shook her head frantically in sheer denial.

"I am not leaving you here to die alone!" she screamed through the muffled mask.

The steel door blew inward with a deafening explosion, sending smoke and concrete debris everywhere.

Heavily armored Russian mercenaries flooded into the small room, their laser-sighted weapons raised.

Dominic fought like a demon, but he was heavily outnumbered and severely wounded from the previous shootout.

A massive man with cold gray eyes stepped smoothly through the smoke, dressed in an immaculate white suit.

It was Alexander Volkov himself.

He struck Dominic brutally across the face with a metal baton, dropping the mafia boss to the concrete floor.

Volkov walked over to Sophie and aggressively ripped the gas mask off her face.

"You have a very delicate touch with my son, little waitress," Volkov sneered with a terrible smile.

Sophie held the baby tighter against her chest, refusing to break eye contact with the terrifying mob boss.

"If you want to live, you will come with me and raise him exactly as I tell you to," Volkov commanded.

He pressed the barrel of a gold-plated pistol directly against Dominic's bleeding head.

"Or you can watch me paint this bunker with Moretti's brains right now."

Sophie looked at Dominic's desperate, pleading eyes, knowing exactly what she had to do to save them.

"I will go with you," Sophie said, stepping forward into the hands of the enemy.
