Chapter 7 - The Ambush

"Get down!" Alexander roared as he tackled Elena and Lily to the grass.

A high-powered sniper bullet shattered the car window exactly where his head had been.

Glass rained down on them like deadly diamonds in the moonlight.

Alexander's bodyguards instantly drew their weapons and formed a defensive circle.

"Return fire into the tree line!" the head of security shouted.

Deafening gunfire erupted across the formerly peaceful wedding garden.

Alexander shielded his family behind the heavy steel frame of the armored car.

"Who is trying to kill us?" Alexander shouted over the noise.

He looked at Elena, his eyes searching her face for answers.

Elena was completely pale, staring at the tree line with wide eyes.

"They are not here for you, Alexander," Elena whispered in horror.

"They are here for me," she admitted, her voice trembling.

Suddenly, three smoke grenades landed near the marble fountain.

Thick gray smoke rapidly blanketed the entire estate, destroying all visibility.

Alexander could hear the muffled screams of his bodyguards falling one by one.

The attackers were highly trained professionals moving in complete silence.

"We need to get to the catering tent," Alexander told his wife.

He picked up Lily and grabbed Elena's hand tightly.

They ran blindly through the dense smoke, dodging overturned wedding tables.

A shadowy figure lunged at Alexander from the gray mist with a combat knife.

Alexander dropped Lily to the side and parried the deadly strike.

He punched the masked attacker in the throat and took his weapon.

"Keep moving!" Alexander yelled, pushing his family toward the large white tent.

They burst into the catering area, surrounded by abandoned wedding cakes and ice sculptures.

Alexander barricaded the entrance with a heavy steel prep table.

He was breathing heavily, blood dripping from a small cut on his cheek.

The silence outside the tent was far more terrifying than the gunfire.

Then, a slow and mocking clap echoed from the darkness of the tent.

A tall man in tactical gear stepped out from behind a massive floral arrangement.

He lowered his black mask, revealing a face with a deep scar over his left eye.

Lily let go of her mother's hand and smiled brightly.

"Uncle Kael!" the little girl cheered happily.
