Chapter 6 - The Betrayal

A massive explosion ripped through the end of the wooden pier.

Elena screamed and fell to her knees in the mud.

Wood splinters and seawater rained down around her.

She looked up through the smoke, expecting the absolute worst.

Her father was no longer sitting in the chair.

He was standing safely next to Victoria.

He brushed the dust off his expensive suit and smiled warmly at the woman in gold.

"Excellent special effects, Victoria," her father said.

Elena felt the entire world spinning out of control.

"Dad?" Elena whispered in pure disbelief.

Her father walked forward and snatched the leather folder from her hands.

"I am sorry, Elena," he said without any actual remorse.

"You were going to donate half of the company profits to charity."

"Victoria promised me a permanent seat on the global board."

He handed the master deeds directly to Victoria.

Victoria laughed and placed the documents into her waterproof briefcase.

"Family is such a complicated business," Victoria sneered.

"Now, kill her and throw her in the ocean," she ordered her mercenaries.

Two armed men stepped out from the shadows of the shipyard containers.

They raised their weapons at Elena.

Suddenly, a pair of headlights flashed blindingly in the darkness.

Sarah's car smashed through the shipyard gates at full speed.

The vehicle hit the two mercenaries, sending them flying into the water.

Elena jumped into the passenger seat as Sarah threw the car in reverse.

They sped away from the docks in a hail of gunfire.

Elena gasped for air, looking at her best friend in gratitude.

"Thank you," Elena cried.

"Where is Leo?" she asked frantically.

Sarah locked the car doors and pulled out a handgun.

"Leo is perfectly safe with Victoria's men," Sarah said, pointing the gun at Elena.
