Chapter 9 - The Impossible Descent

The loud altitude warning system screamed violently inside the confined space of the cockpit.

A robotic voice repeated the words "Terrain, Terrain, Pull Up" in a relentless, terrifying loop.

Evelyn shoved the dead captain out of the pilot's seat and threw herself into the captain's chair.

She grabbed the heavy flight yoke with both hands and pulled backward with all of her strength.

The airplane shuddered violently, the massive metal frame groaning under the extreme aerodynamic stress.

Evelyn had not flown a commercial jet in over twenty years, but her military training instantly took over.

She realized the hydraulic assist was completely offline, forcing her to fight the dead weight of the entire aircraft.

Slowly, agonizingly, the nose of the massive airplane began to lift away from the rapidly approaching mountains.

Just as she leveled the wings, a hidden access panel beneath the copilot's seat was violently kicked open.

The flight attendant crawled up from the avionics bay, holding a jagged piece of broken metal.

Her face was covered in grease and blood, her eyes wide with absolute, fanatical madness.

The operative lunged across the tight space, slashing the sharp metal directly toward Evelyn's throat.

Evelyn ducked, taking a deep, painful slash across her shoulder that soaked her sleeve in warm blood.

The attendant grabbed the copilot's flight yoke and shoved it forward with all her weight.

The airplane instantly pitched nose-down again, sending them diving straight back toward the jagged rocks.

Evelyn fought back, punching the operative squarely in the jaw, but the woman refused to let go of the controls.

It was a desperate tug-of-war for the lives of everyone on board the doomed flight.

The mountain peaks were now so close that Evelyn could clearly see the individual pine trees covered in snow.

The robotic warning system changed its pitch, screaming "Sink Rate, Sink Rate" as disaster became inevitable.

The flight attendant laughed hysterically, declaring that the syndicate always wins in the end.

Evelyn looked at the woman, her eyes turning into completely cold, unfeeling steel.

May you like

She let go of the yoke with one hand, reached down to her belt, and pulled her combat knife.

Without a word of warning, she drove the hilt of the heavy blade directly into the attendant's temple.
