Chapter 10 - The Landing and the Hook

The flight attendant collapsed instantly, her dead weight falling completely away from the flight controls.

Evelyn grabbed the yoke with both hands and pulled back with a terrifying, primal scream.

The massive airplane groaned as it pulled out of the dive, clearing the jagged mountain peak by mere feet.

Evelyn ignored the searing pain in her bleeding shoulder and focused entirely on the distant glow of a runway.

She manually navigated the crippled jet toward a secluded military airfield she recognized from her past deployments.

With no automated systems and blown hydraulic lines, the landing was incredibly rough and violent.

The wheels slammed onto the tarmac, sending showers of sparks flying past the cabin windows as the brakes locked up.

The airplane finally skidded to a complete halt, safe and intact on the ground.

Within seconds, dozens of heavily armed military vehicles and ambulances completely surrounded the aircraft.

Federal tactical teams breached the doors, securing the syndicate operatives and treating the waking passengers.

Evelyn walked off the plane holding Leo's hand, handing the green glass vial directly to a waiting military doctor.

Three days later, Evelyn stood in a bright hospital room, watching her son smile and breathe entirely on his own.

The synthesized cure had completely eradicated the deadly biological poison from his system.

She hugged Leo tightly, feeling the warm, absolute peace of a family finally safe from the shadows.

As she walked out into the hospital hallway, a silent nurse handed Evelyn a heavy, unmarked black envelope.

Evelyn opened the flap and pulled out a high-resolution photograph of Leo playing in the hospital courtyard.

A bright red sniper crosshair was digitally superimposed directly over the little boy's chest.

On the back of the photograph, a handwritten note read: "We are already boarding your next flight."
