Chapter 7 - The Galley Fight

Evelyn stared at the massive operative, her heart pounding furiously against her frozen ribs.
The giant tightened his grip on Leo, causing the terrified boy to cry out in pain.
He warned Evelyn that if she tried any tricks, he would end her grandson's life right there in the dark.
Evelyn slowly raised her hands in a gesture of absolute surrender, stepping away from the wooden crates.
She reached into her insulated coat pocket and pulled out the green glass vial.
She told the man that he had won, and she just wanted the boy to be safe.
With a slow, deliberate motion, Evelyn tossed the vial across the icy metal floor.
The giant operative greedily tracked the sliding glass with his eyes, lowering his weapon for a fraction of a second.
He did not realize that the object sliding toward him was not the medicine.
It was a highly concentrated emergency flare Evelyn had grabbed from the wall kit above.
Evelyn squeezed her eyes shut and pressed the remote detonator hidden in her palm.
The flare erupted with a blinding, magnesium-white flash that completely illuminated the massive cargo hold.
The giant screamed in agony, dropping his knife to cover his scorched, blinded eyes.
Evelyn lunged across the distance with terrifying speed, grabbing Leo and pulling him safely behind a metal container.
She spun around and delivered a devastating, spinning kick directly to the blinded giant's knee.
The bone snapped with a loud crack, sending the massive man crashing heavily onto the frozen floor.
As he fell, his massive flailing arm collided violently with the cargo bay's primary pressure release valve.
The heavy steel lever snapped completely off, compromising the entire seal of the airplane's outer hull.
A deafening roar consumed the cargo hold as the massive exterior door began to slowly pry open.
Hurricane-force winds instantly ripped through the compartment, sucking loose luggage out into the endless night sky.
Evelyn grabbed Leo and held onto a cargo net for dear life as the suction threatened to pull them out.
She realized that if the door opened completely, the entire tail section of the airplane would be torn apart.
May you like
She looked at the manual override switch, which was located right next to the widening gap of the open door.
Evelyn told Leo to close his eyes, let go of the net, and threw herself directly into the terrifying void.
