Chapter 4 - The Altitude Drop

Evelyn watched through the reinforced glass as the glass vial teetered on the edge of the incinerator.

She shouted through the heavy door, warning the attendant that the synthesized cure was highly explosive if heated.

The attendant paused, her eyes darting nervously toward the glowing orange heat of the trash chute.

Evelyn used that brief moment of hesitation to analyze the digital keypad locking the galley door.

She reached into her pocket, pulled out her titanium DOD badge, and popped open its hidden back panel.

Inside the badge was a small, encrypted hacking module designed for emergency federal overrides.

She plugged a tiny wire from the badge into the keypad's data port and began rapidly typing on the small screen.

The flight attendant realized what Evelyn was doing and panicked, pulling a heavy fire axe from the emergency wall mount.

She prepared to smash the control panel from the inside to permanently trap herself in the safe room.

Before the axe could swing, the airplane suddenly violently lurched downward.

The captain had intentionally thrown the commercial jet into a terrifying, steep dive.

Everyone in the cabin was thrown toward the ceiling as zero gravity took over the plunging aircraft.

Luggage burst from the overhead bins, raining heavy suitcases down upon the screaming passengers.

The sudden dive caused the attendant to lose her footing, dropping the medicine vial safely onto a padded service mat.

Evelyn clung to a seat handle, desperately fighting the intense G-force to keep her hacking module connected.

The digital lock beeped green, and the heavy metal door finally clicked open.

But just as Evelyn prepared to push the door aside, a deafening alarm blared through the cabin.

The captain had completely depressurized the airplane at thirty thousand feet.

Yellow emergency oxygen masks immediately dropped from the ceiling panels above the panicking passengers.

Evelyn crawled toward Leo, desperate to secure a mask over his tiny face before he lost consciousness.

She pulled the yellow cup down, but a sickening hiss of empty air greeted her ears.

The corrupt Air Marshal had covertly slashed the oxygen lines to their entire row before the flight began.

Evelyn watched her grandson gasp for air, his face rapidly turning a terrifying shade of blue.
