Chapter 9 - The Fall
Victor saw Serena escaping with his son.
He abandoned his cover and charged up the metal stairs.
Lily followed right behind him, her heart pounding in her ears.
They burst onto the rain-slicked roof of the warehouse.
The icy wind whipped around them in a violent frenzy.
Serena was standing at the very edge of the building.
She was holding the tiny baby over the dangerous, dizzying drop.
Below them was the churning, black water of the river.
Serena screamed at Victor to drop his weapon.
She promised to throw the baby into the river if Victor took one more step.
Victor froze in place.
The ruthless mafia boss was completely paralyzed by the fear of losing his son.
He slowly lowered his gun to the wet gravel.
He told Serena she could have the money, the empire, and his life.
He begged her to just hand over the innocent child.
Serena smiled a twisted, evil smile.
She said she didn't want to leave any loose ends.
Lily suddenly noticed a red laser dot appearing on Victor's chest.
One of Serena's snipers was hiding on a nearby construction crane.
Lily didn't think about the consequences.
She dove directly at Victor, tackling him to the ground.
A high-caliber bullet ripped through the space where Victor's heart had just been.
The loud gunshot startled Serena completely.
She stumbled backward on the slippery edge.
