Chapter 4 - The Escape

The heavy iron key turned slowly in the lock.

Lily frantically jumped down from the crates.

She hid behind the door just as a guard stepped inside.

He carried a tray of stale bread and a glass of water.

Before he could react, Lily swung a loose brick she had found on the floor.

She struck the back of his head with all her remaining strength.

The guard collapsed into an unconscious heap.

Lily grabbed his keycard and slipped out into the dimly lit corridor.

She needed to find Victor before he drank the poisoned whiskey.

But first, she needed the solid proof to make him listen.

She remembered seeing a trash chute connecting the nursery to the incinerator room.

She sprinted quietly through the shadows of the basement level.

She reached the garbage sorting room and dove into the piles of discarded items.

Her hands scrambled through dirty diapers and broken toys.

Finally, her fingers brushed against soft blue fur.

She pulled the stuffed bear out of a black plastic bag.

She ripped the seam open and extracted the tiny memory card.

A cruel voice suddenly echoed from the doorway.

Serena's personal bodyguard stepped into the room.

He pulled a long, wicked hunting knife from his belt.

He smiled and said Serena sent her regards.
