Chapter 8 - The Showdown

Lily choked out a desperate plea for Victor to let her go.
She shoved the stolen burner phone into his chest.
She told him to look at the screen if he wanted the truth.
Victor hesitated for a fraction of a second.
He loosened his grip and snatched the phone from her hands.
He watched the clear footage of Serena abusing his son and handing him to a smuggler.
The look of pure, unadulterated rage that washed over Victor's face was absolutely terrifying.
He realized Lily had risked her own life to save his child.
He dropped her to the floor and pulled a hidden backup weapon from his boot.
Suddenly, the warehouse doors blew open.
Serena marched back inside, flanked by five heavily armed mercenaries.
She saw Victor standing free and her face contorted in sheer panic.
She ordered her men to open fire.
Victor pulled Lily behind a stack of steel crates just as bullets shredded the air.
He returned fire with deadly, terrifying accuracy.
Three of the mercenaries dropped to the ground instantly.
The gunfire was deafening in the enclosed space.
Lily heard baby Ethan screaming from the back room.
She crawled under the hail of bullets to reach the wooden crate.
She ripped the lid off.
The crate was empty.

She looked up and saw Serena dragging the crying baby up a steep metal staircase.
They were heading straight for the open rooftop.
