Chapter 5 - The Debt

I carried the insurance papers straight to the police station.

Mark was sitting in a holding cell, looking pathetic in his wrinkled dress shirt.

I slammed the documents against the iron bars.

I demanded to know why he put a price tag on our daughter's life.

Mark stared at the papers in genuine confusion.

He swore he had never seen that policy before in his life.

He said Chloe worked at an insurance firm and must have forged his signature.

The detective entered the holding area and told me to step back.

He revealed that Chloe had a solid alibi for the arsenic poisoning.

She was on a video call with her mother during the exact window of time Lily’s tea was made.

But the detective had dug into Chloe’s financial records.

She didn't forge the policy for Mark to get rich.
