Chapter 7 - The Legal Nightmare

I stared at the screen in absolute horror.
The camera was clearly hidden in the corner of my own living room, angled perfectly at the couch.
Rachel smiled a wicked, triumphant smile.
She told me she had planted it there months ago while I was busy painting the kitchen.
She claimed she just wanted to make sure her dear brother was safe.
But then she hit play on a recorded clip from two weeks ago.
It was a video of me venting to my best friend on the phone, saying I wanted to absolutely destroy Rachel's life.
It was just harmless venting, but taken out of context, it sounded like a premeditated threat.
Rachel's lawyer stepped out from the kitchen, wiping his mouth with a napkin.
He calmly informed me that based on this video, the judge had already granted an emergency restraining order.
He handed me a fresh legal document, officially barring me from returning to my own home.
I was being legally evicted from the house I just spent six months renovating.
I turned to Eleanor, begging her to see how insane her daughter was acting.
Eleanor just crossed her arms and said I brought this on myself by being a jealous, bitter wife.
I ran out of the house, tears finally streaming down my face.
I sat in my car in the driveway and called Greg, telling him we were locked out.
Greg met me at a cheap motel on the edge of town with a single suitcase he managed to pack before the police arrived.
We sat on the lumpy mattress in silence, realizing we had lost everything.
To make matters worse, Greg tried to buy us dinner using his debit card, but it was declined.
We logged into our banking app and saw a balance of zero.
Rachel had used her access to the business loan to drain our joint checking account.

The lawyer wasn't just representing her; he was helping her hide the money.
And when I looked up the lawyer's name on my phone, I saw a picture of him shaking hands with the local chief of police.
