Chapter 3 - The Family Tribunal

My heart shattered into a million pieces as my husband threw me under the bus.
I stared at Greg in absolute disbelief, feeling the tears well up in my eyes.
The officers immediately asked me to step out onto the porch and keep my hands where they could see them.
But then Greg reached into his pocket and pulled out his phone.
He told the cops that his wife was dangerous to liars, and he played the audio recording of Rachel for them.
I let out a massive breath I didn't know I was holding, realizing Greg was actually on my side.
He explained to the police that Rachel had orchestrated property damage and was now filing a false police report.
The officers listened to the tape, sighed heavily, and put their notepads away.
They explained that this was a civil matter, but they would be paying Rachel a visit for wasting police resources.
After they left, Greg hugged me tight and apologized for ever doubting me.
We thought we had won the battle for the night.
But at six in the morning, our front door was kicked open.
Greg's mother, Eleanor, marched into our house without knocking.
She was dragging Rachel behind her, whose hands were covered in ridiculous, massive white bandages.
Eleanor screamed that we were monsters for attacking a single mother.
She slammed a piece of paper down on our kitchen island.
It was a lawsuit demanding fifty thousand dollars for emotional distress and medical bills.

And standing right behind them was a man holding a briefcase.
He smiled coldly and introduced himself as Rachel's lawyer.
