Chapter 8 - The Corrupt Precinct
Adrian aggressively shoved Noah entirely to the floor just as a heavy sniper bullet shattered the glass window.
The deadly projectile buried itself deeply into the plaster wall exactly where the boy had been standing.
"Grab the bag and crawl toward the back hallway right now," Adrian screamed over the chaotic noise.
Clara snatched the vital audio recorder and slithered rapidly across the dirty floor like a highly trained soldier.
They barely managed to escape the tiny apartment before a second bullet completely destroyed the television set.
They ran wildly down the concrete back stairwell and stole a rusty sedan parked illegally in the dark alley.
"We are going directly to the central police headquarters to hand over this recording," Adrian declared firmly.
He drove incredibly recklessly through the busy city streets, completely ignoring every single red traffic light.
The massive, heavily fortified police precinct finally loomed entirely before them like a concrete fortress.
They rushed desperately up the wide stone steps, fully believing they had finally reached absolute safety.
A tall, deeply decorated Police Captain stood firmly at the top of the stairs, entirely blocking the main entrance.
"Mr. Sterling, we have been aggressively looking for you all morning," the stern Captain announced loudly.
Adrian felt a massive wave of pure relief and quickly handed the silver audio recorder to the high-ranking officer.
"This recording contains absolute proof that my mother orchestrated a massive criminal conspiracy," Adrian explained breathlessly.
The Captain took the device slowly and examined it with a remarkably cold, entirely emotionless expression.
He casually dropped the digital recorder onto the hard concrete steps and crushed it violently under his heavy boot.
Adrian stared at the completely destroyed evidence in absolute, unadulterated horror.
"Vivian sends her absolute best regards, Adrian," the corrupt Captain sneered with a remarkably sick, twisted smile.
A dozen heavily armed police officers immediately swarmed them, forcefully grabbing Adrian's arms behind his back.
They aggressively ripped a crying Noah away from Adrian's desperate, incredibly tight grasp.
"You are officially under arrest for severe kidnapping and attempted murder," the Captain declared loudly to the public crowd.
Clara managed to slip completely unnoticed into the large crowd of civilian bystanders gathering nearby.
The corrupt officers dragged Adrian violently into the dark holding cells located deep beneath the massive precinct.
They locked him securely inside a cold, heavily barred cage, entirely isolating him from the outside world.

Through the small barred window, Adrian saw a familiar, terrifying woman walking confidently down the cell block.
Vivian approached his cage with a wicked smile, holding a syringe filled with a deadly, completely untraceable poison.
