Chapter 3 - The Poisoned Drink

Adrian pulled Noah firmly behind his back to shield his son from the heavily armed men.

The security guards aimed their bright tactical flashlights directly into Adrian's eyes, blinding him completely.

He scanned the dark lobby frantically for any possible secondary exit or weapon.

The heavy glass doors leading to the grand outdoor patio were firmly secured with thick metal deadbolts.

"You have absolutely nowhere left to run, Mr. Sterling," the lead guard sneered aggressively.

Adrian suddenly felt a massive, dizzying wave of pure nausea violently crash over his body.

His knees buckled slightly, and his vision began to blur into dark, shadowy edges.

He remembered the single glass of expensive scotch Vivian had personally handed him before his emergency meeting.

She had deliberately poisoned his drink with a slow-acting sedative to render him completely helpless.

"Daddy, please do not fall asleep," Noah cried, tugging desperately at Adrian's suit jacket.

The sound of his son's terrified voice sent a massive surge of pure adrenaline directly into Adrian's bloodstream.

He forced himself to stand perfectly upright, ignoring the heavy poison actively burning through his veins.

Adrian noticed a heavy bronze fire extinguisher mounted securely on the marble wall beside him.

He lunged forward with explosive speed and ripped the heavy cylinder completely off its metal bracket.

He swung the heavy bronze tank viciously into the face of the closest armed guard.

The man collapsed instantly to the floor, dropping his heavy tactical shotgun with a loud clatter.

Adrian pulled the safety pin from the extinguisher and sprayed a massive, blinding cloud of toxic white foam directly into the crowd.

The guards coughed violently and fired their weapons blindly into the thick chemical smoke.

Adrian scooped Noah up with his remaining strength and grabbed the dropped shotgun from the floor.

He fired a single devastating blast directly into the heavy glass patio doors, shattering them into a million tiny pieces.

They leapt through the broken glass frame and crashed heavily onto the wet outdoor terrace.

The freezing rain immediately soaked them to the bone, but the extreme cold helped clear Adrian's poisoned mind.

They sprinted aggressively across the massive manicured lawn toward the dark, heavily wooded perimeter of the estate.

Adrian could hear the angry shouts of the pursuing guards growing dangerously louder behind them.

He finally reached his parked luxury sedan hidden quietly near the rear service gates.

He quickly secured Noah in the back seat and hotwired the engine with desperate, shaking hands.

The powerful car roared to life, and Adrian slammed his foot aggressively onto the gas pedal.

They sped violently down the winding mountain road, leaving the terrifying estate far behind them.

Adrian finally let out a massive sigh of relief, believing they had successfully escaped the nightmare.

He pressed the brake pedal to slow down for a sharp, dangerous turn approaching rapidly.

The pedal sank completely to the floor without absolutely any resistance whatsoever.

The brakes had been entirely severed, and the car was accelerating wildly toward a massive concrete barrier.
