Chapter 5 - The Grandfather's Trust

Adrian stared at the old caretaker in complete and utter disbelief.

He had known this quiet man for over thirty years, entirely trusting him with the family's deepest secrets.

"How much is my mother paying you to betray your own conscience?" Adrian asked with a deeply bitter tone.

The old man kept the heavy rifle perfectly steady, his eyes devoid of any genuine remorse.

"It is absolutely not about the money, Adrian, it is about who rightfully controls the bloodline," the caretaker answered coldly.

The old man gestured aggressively toward a heavy iron safe sitting completely open in the corner of the room.

"Your mother gave me those historical documents to completely burn, but I kept them to protect my own life," he revealed.

Adrian slowly calculated the physical distance between himself and the barrel of the loaded rifle.

He needed a major distraction if he was going to save his innocent son from this deadly trap.

"Noah, close your eyes incredibly tightly right now," Adrian commanded loudly.

Adrian instantly kicked the wooden coffee table violently upward, sending hot tea flying directly into the old man's face.

The caretaker screamed in absolute agony and blindly pulled the heavy trigger.

The loud gunshot completely shattered the cabin window, missing Adrian's head by mere inches.

Adrian lunged forward aggressively and tackled the old man violently to the hard wooden floor.

He delivered a single, devastating punch to the caretaker's jaw, knocking him completely unconscious instantly.

Adrian stood up heavily, gasping desperately for air as he grabbed the loaded rifle for protection.

He walked cautiously over to the open iron safe and pulled out the thick stack of ancient documents.

The heavy papers were covered in complex legal jargon and sealed with his late grandfather's personal wax stamp.

Adrian began reading the fragile documents, and his entire world completely shattered into a million tiny pieces.

Noah had not just inherited a standard trust fund from the late family patriarch.

The grandfather had legally transferred the absolute ownership of the entire Sterling corporate empire exclusively to Noah.

The massive wealth was set to automatically activate at midnight on Noah's eighth birthday, which was exactly tomorrow.

Vivian was completely desperate to gain legal custody tonight to forcefully control the boy's massive fortune tomorrow.

But the final paragraph of the secret document contained a vastly more terrifying revelation.

Adrian read the genetic testing results attached securely to the back of the heavy legal will.

Vivian was absolutely not Adrian's biological mother, meaning she had absolutely no legal claim to the family at all.

Suddenly, the distinct, terrifying sound of approaching helicopter blades echoed loudly above the small cabin.
