Chapter 7 - The Blackmailer

Damon panicked completely at the unexpected sound of Claire's voice.
He kept the silver handgun pointed unsteadily at Owen and me.
"Tell her to go away right now," Damon hissed at Owen.
Owen walked slowly to the door, his hands raised in a gesture of surrender.
Instead of telling her to leave, Owen quickly threw the deadbolt open.
Claire stumbled inside, her eyes widening in sheer horror at the sight of the gun.
"Damon, what the hell are you doing?!" she screamed, dropping her purse.
"Shut up, both of you!" Damon yelled, losing complete control of the situation.
I realized Damon wasn't just a cheater; he was a coward pushed to the absolute edge.
My maternal instinct flared, hot and fierce, desperate to protect the unborn child in my womb.
I noticed Damon had stepped too close to the heavy brass floor lamp in the corner.
While he was distracted screaming at Claire, I kicked the heavy base of the lamp as hard as I could.
It tipped over and crashed directly onto Damon's shoulder.
The gun clattered across the hardwood floor, spinning out of his reach.
Owen violently dove across the room for the weapon.

I realized with horror that Owen was not trying to save us at all.
Owen grabbed the gun and pointed it directly at my chest with a cold, dead stare.
