Chapter 3 - The Broken Glass

I backed away from the hallway before they could see my shadow on the floor.

My absolute best friend was carrying my cheating husband's child.

The betrayal was a physical weight pressing heavily on my chest, making it hard to breathe.

I grabbed the dessert tray and walked back into the dining room with a steady hand.

After they left, Damon claimed he had a severe headache and went to bed early.

I stayed up alone in the dark living room, opening my laptop on the coffee table.

I needed to check our joint bank accounts immediately before he locked me out of those too.

Everything looked perfectly normal at first glance, showing our usual balances.

But then I checked the digital tax documents folder on our shared cloud drive.

There was a recent PDF for an offshore limited liability company I had never heard of before.

The primary signatory on the legal document was Damon.

He had transferred over two hundred thousand dollars from our emergency savings into this shadow account.

He was actively planning to leave me destitute.

I scrolled down the document to see the secondary signatory on the corporate account.

It was not Claire.

It was Owen.
