Chapter 1 - The Broken Alliance
"My father used this to teach my mother how to submit."
Preston Hale raised a heavy metal golf club inside the locked bridal suite.
Giulietta Marconi never screamed.
She simply slipped off her three-carat diamond engagement ring and placed it gently on the vanity.
When he swung the club at her, she stepped inside his guard and ripped the metal shaft from his hands.
With one swift motion, she sent Preston crashing down onto the velvet sofa before his father could even reach the room.
Then Warren Hale stormed inside with his face flushed red with anger.
"You are marrying into my family, Giulietta."
The hallway behind Giulietta suddenly filled with ten heavily armed Marconi capos.
"No, Warren."
"Your son was marrying into mine."
Warren became afraid immediately.
But he was not afraid because the wedding was finished.
He was terrified because the marriage was the only thing keeping his entire family alive.
The Hale family had secretly stolen forty million dollars from the Marconi offshore accounts.
They needed Giulietta's signature on the marital trust to cover their tracks before her father noticed.
Giulietta looked down at her bleeding ex-fiance.
"Take them both to the warehouse."
Just as her men moved forward, Giulietta's cell phone began to ring.
It was her father's head of security.

"Giulietta, do not leave the hotel."
"Your father's convoy was just hit by two rockets on the highway, and he is missing."
