Chapter 8 - The Unexpected Guest.

Jason froze in the doorway, his hand covering his nose as the artificial smell of death hit him.
Chloe stood right behind him, holding a crumpled tissue to her face in a perfect display of fake grief.
Detective Bennett and I watched the monitors intensely, waiting for them to incriminate themselves.
But the reason the detective had screamed was not because of Jason or his sister.
Another person had suddenly stepped into the frame of the living room camera.
It was Jason’s father, Richard, holding a heavy hunting rifle aimed directly at his own son.
Richard’s face was twisted in absolute rage and heartbreak as he forced Jason and Chloe into the house.
We realized that Richard had somehow discovered the horrific truth during their European vacation.
He kicked the front door shut, locking them inside the house with the fake decomposing body.
Richard screamed at Jason, demanding to know how he could be so evil as to murder his own wife.
Jason collapsed to his knees, sobbing uncontrollably and begging his father to put the gun down.
He pointed a shaking finger at Chloe, screaming that the entire murder plot was her idea from the very beginning.
Chloe dropped her fake tissue, her innocent facade completely shattering in an instant.
She coldly told her father that I was draining the family wealth with my expensive medical bills.
She arrogantly confessed to hiring the fixers and planning the life insurance fraud to save their inheritance.
Richard lowered his weapon slightly, completely devastated by the sheer monstrosity of his own children.
Chloe used that brief moment of hesitation to lunge forward and grab the barrel of the heavy rifle.
The two of them wrestled violently for control of the loaded weapon in the middle of the living room.
