I was too weak to stand when my husband zipped his suitcase and smiled. “You’ll be fine for a few weeks,” he said before leaving for Europe with his family. Hours later, I discovered my medication was gone, the power and water had been shut off, and every door was locked from the outside. I thought he had left me there to d:ie... until he returned 74 days later and screamed at what he found inside the house.

The corrupt officer walked silently up the wooden steps of the cabin porch.

I backed away from the window, my heart pounding violently against my ribs.

I knew I could not outrun a trained police officer in the middle of a dark, flooded forest.

I had to use the element of surprise if I wanted to survive this terrifying night.

I crept into the narrow hallway and hid behind the heavy wooden door of the bedroom.

I heard the front door lock click open as the officer easily picked the mechanism.

His heavy wet boots squeaked softly against the hardwood floor as he entered the dark living room.

He began sweeping the cabin with a tactical flashlight attached to the barrel of his gun.

He slowly pushed the bedroom door open and stepped inside, scanning the empty bed.

I held my breath, gripping the heavy iron poker with trembling hands.

When he turned his back to check the closet, I stepped out from the shadows and swung with all my might.

The heavy iron struck his gun hand, sending the weapon clattering across the wooden floor.

He cursed loudly and spun around, lunging at me with a brutal left hook.

I ducked under his swing and shoved him forcefully into the heavy wooden dresser.

He stumbled backward, giving me just enough time to sprint out of the bedroom and grab his fallen gun.

I aimed the weapon directly at his chest as he recovered his balance.

He raised his hands in mock surrender, a cruel smile spreading across his bloody face.

He told me that shooting a police officer would ruin my life forever.

I calmly replied that he was not a police officer tonight, but a hired assassin who broke into my house.

His arrogant smile faded, and he finally realized I was completely willing to pull the trigger.

I demanded to know exactly how much Jason was paying him to betray his badge.

The dirty cop laughed darkly and revealed a truth that made my blood run completely cold.
