Chapter 3 - The Accomplice.

I stared at the photographs in absolute disbelief.
My husband had hired someone to watch me die.
Detective Bennett pointed to the shadowed face in the grainy image.
She asked if I recognized the man standing next to Jason.
I studied the posture and the dark jacket, feeling a sudden wave of nausea.
It was our property manager, a man named David who lived just three streets away.
David had access to the master keys and the knowledge to shut off the water main.
Detective Bennett explained that Jason’s plan was meticulously crafted.
Jason had established an airtight alibi by traveling internationally with his entire family.
Meanwhile, David was paid to ensure I could not escape or call for help.
The detective revealed that they had already run a background check on Jason's recent financial activities.
Jason had taken out a massive five-million-dollar life insurance policy on me just two weeks ago.
I felt tears streaming down my face as the ultimate betrayal sank in.
The man I loved had decided my life was worth exactly five million dollars.
Detective Bennett promised me that they would arrest David immediately and bring him in for questioning.
She left two armed officers outside my hospital door to ensure my safety.
A few hours later, the detective returned with a grim expression on her face.
I asked her if David had confessed to his part in the horrific plot.
May you like
She shook her head slowly and pulled out her notepad.
David could not confess to anything because the police had just found his body hanging in his own garage.
