Chapter 6 - The Lethal Injection

I stared at the empty incubators in sheer disbelief.
Bradley had already moved my baby.
Footsteps echoed loudly behind me in the smoky hallway.
I turned around to see Hannah standing in the doorway.
She was holding a loaded syringe, and her sweet facade was completely gone.
She smiled wickedly, coughing slightly from the chemical smoke.
She told me I was incredibly stubborn for a woman who had just been sliced open.
I demanded to know where my son was.
Hannah laughed and said the buyer had already taken him to the roof for extraction.
She slowly walked toward me, raising the needle.
She explained that the syringe contained a massive dose of potassium chloride.
It would stop my heart instantly and mimic a fatal postpartum complication.
She lunged at me with terrifying speed.
I used my knowledge of human anatomy to react instantly.
I sidestepped her attack and grabbed her wrist with both hands.
I twisted her arm violently until the bone snapped with a loud crack.
Hannah screamed in agony and dropped the syringe onto the floor.
I kicked her hard in the chest, sending her crashing into the empty incubators.
I picked up the syringe and held it inches from her terrified face.
I told her to give me the access code to the roof elevator, or I would inject her.
She sobbed and gave me the four-digit code.
I left her crying on the floor and ran toward the private elevator.

When the elevator doors opened on the roof, a chilling sight awaited me.
Bradley was standing at the edge of the roof, holding my baby over the terrifying drop.
