Chapter 3 - The Psychiatric Hold

I stared at the guards in pure horror.

I asked them on what grounds I was being detained.

One guard handed me a legal document signed by my own husband.

It stated that I had suffered a violent psychotic break during labor.

Bradley claimed I had intentionally ripped the steel bed rail off to attack his medical staff.

He also claimed I was severely addicted to stolen hospital narcotics.

Appended to the document was a fabricated blood test showing massive amounts of illegal drugs in my system.

Hannah had officially signed off as the witness to my supposed insanity.

They were building a flawless legal case to strip me of my medical license and my child.

I took a deep breath, forcing my frantic mind to think like an ER doctor.

I knew I had a limited window before the heavy sedatives they were prescribing took full effect.

I looked at the young nurse and noticed her nametag.

Her name was Chloe, and I had saved her mother's life in my emergency room two years ago.

I whispered her name, begging her to remember who I truly was.

Chloe looked at the guards, then quickly pretended to adjust my IV drip.

She leaned in close to my ear.

She slipped a small, cold object under my pillow.

She whispered that she knew the blood test was fake.

Chloe promised to stall the psychiatrist for exactly one hour.

The guards escorted her out of the room, leaving me alone.

I reached under my pillow and pulled out the object.

It was a master access keycard for the entire hospital.

Wrapped around the card was a note revealing where Bradley had taken my son.
