Chapter 6 - The Ultimate Betrayal

I stared at my lifelong mentor in absolute, heartbroken disbelief as the truth crashed down on me.

Doctor Wallace was never coming to save me; he was part of the conspiracy from the very beginning.

"Why are you doing this to me?" I whispered, my voice cracking under the weight of his betrayal.

Wallace casually adjusted his tie, looking at me as if I were nothing more than a minor administrative error.

"Cameron's genetic research on your son's rare stem cells is projected to make this hospital billions of dollars," Wallace explained coldly.

"We simply cannot allow an emotional mother to interfere with the greatest medical breakthrough of the century."

He admitted they needed me locked away in this cell forever so Cameron could maintain legal control over the infant.

They turned around and walked out of the room, the heavy steel door slamming shut and locking with a deafening click.

I collapsed onto the floor, the sheer scale of their corruption threatening to crush my spirit completely.

But as I pictured my newborn son alone in a sterile laboratory, my despair hardened into pure, unbreakable rage.

I refused to let these monsters harvest my child like a lab rat.

I pulled the janitor's master keycard from my pocket, realizing Wallace never saw me hide it during his arrogant speech.

I waited until the midnight shift change, knowing the psychiatric ward ran on a skeleton crew during the early hours.

I swiped the stolen keycard against the electronic lock on the inside of the door.

The light flashed green, and the heavy door hissed open just enough for me to slip through.

I moved like a ghost through the dark, abandoned corridors of the hospital basement.

I found the secure server room and used the keycard to bypass the biometric scanner.

I accessed the mainframe and began downloading the illegal genetic harvesting contracts to the burner phone.

The files detailed massive payouts from mysterious offshore accounts directly to Cameron, Sophie, and Doctor Wallace.

Just as the download progress bar hit ninety-nine percent, the overhead lights suddenly snapped off.

Blaring sirens ripped through the silence of the hospital, echoing loudly down the concrete hallways.

A mechanized voice began broadcasting over the PA system, chilling me to the bone.

"Code Red, patient escape in the psychiatric wing, initiate total facility lockdown."
