Chapter 7 - The Hostage Ultimatum

Paramedics rushed past me to stabilize my profusely bleeding brother.

Mike had suffered a severe head wound but he was miraculously still breathing.

Irene had clearly struck him down when he finally realized what she was doing.

Agent Harris informed me that my mother was officially missing and presumed to be a hostage.

My burner phone suddenly rang with an encrypted caller ID.

I answered it with shaking hands while Agent Harris initiated a wiretap.

Irene’s voice echoed through the speaker with chilling clarity.

She told me she was holding my mother at gunpoint at the abandoned shipping docks.

Irene demanded that I digitally transfer the remaining ten thousand dollars from my shelter fundraiser to her offshore account.

If the money did not clear in exactly one hour, she promised to throw my mother into the freezing ocean.

I heard my mother sobbing hysterically in the background of the call.

My mother screamed that she was incredibly sorry for everything she had done to me.

She finally realized that her golden daughter-in-law was actually a ruthless monster.

Irene violently told her to shut up and disconnected the line.

Agent Harris placed a tracking device on my phone and handed me a bulletproof vest.

He told me I had to keep her talking long enough for the snipers to get into position.

I agreed to the dangerous plan without a single moment of hesitation.

We sped toward the desolate shipping docks as a massive thunderstorm began to brew in the sky.

The rain poured down in heavy sheets, making visibility almost entirely impossible.

I stepped out of the armored vehicle and walked alone toward the edge of the wooden pier.

Lightning flashed violently, illuminating two figures standing near the deep water.

Irene was holding a silver pistol firmly against my weeping mother’s head.
