Chapter 9 - The Final Stand
"Nobody is successfully leaving this house alive," Victoria snarled viciously, stepping very carefully into the ruined nursery.
Elena rapidly tightened her fierce grip on Lily, fully shielding her daughter's tiny body with her own.
Miller stood up very slowly, keeping his empty hands perfectly visible in the dim, flickering light.
"Put the weapon down immediately, Victoria," Miller warned in a remarkably calm, highly authoritative voice.
"You are already facing very serious kidnapping and severe assault charges."
"Don't add premeditated murder to the growing list."
Victoria let out a sharp, wildly hysterical laugh that deeply chilled Elena straight to the bone.
"I don't care at all about the criminal charges, because I am taking David's private jet to a non-extradition country tonight."
"I merely needed to completely eliminate the final loose ends first."
David struggled bravely to his feet, heavily holding the bloody towel against his violently throbbing head.
"What the hell is going on here?!" David yelled furiously, staring directly at the loaded gun.
Miller kept his intense eyes locked firmly on Victoria's slightly trembling finger on the trigger.
"Take a look at what your lovely wife was doing while you were away at work, David," Miller said loudly.
"You locked my innocent child inside a room?!" David roared loudly, stepping aggressively toward her.
Victoria panicked instantly and swung the heavy gun directly toward David's chest.
In that exact split second, Miller lunged aggressively forward and tackled Victoria forcefully to the hard floor.
The gun went off rapidly with a deafening blast, completely shattering the large bedroom mirror into dust.
Elena screamed loudly and tightly covered Lily's ears as the two struggled violently on the hardwood floor.

Miller finally managed to aggressively wrestle the weapon away and pinned Victoria's arms firmly behind her back.
"You are under arrest for child endangerment and attempted murder," Miller declared breathlessly to the defeated woman.
