Chapter 10 - The Hidden Threat

Victoria thrashed incredibly wildly on the ground, her perfectly styled hair now a completely tangled mess.

"Get your hands off me right now!" Victoria screamed hysterically, kicking her expensive heels forcefully against the floor.

Miller completely ignored her loud protests and securely snapped the heavy steel handcuffs around her wrists.

He hauled the deeply furious woman rapidly to her feet and shoved her toward the hallway to wait for police backup.

David slowly walked over to Elena, his face incredibly pale and completely drained of his usual arrogant pride.

He looked deeply at Lily, who was now sleeping very peacefully against Elena's warm shoulder.

"I have been a truly terrible father and a remarkably blind, foolish man," David said softly, his voice breaking emotionally.

"I am giving full custody back to her mother immediately!" he promised genuinely, wiping a stray tear away.

Elena felt a truly massive, suffocating weight finally lift entirely off her tired, exhausted shoulders.

The agonizing, deeply traumatic nightmare of being separated from her daughter was finally and completely over.

A few short days later, the official legal paperwork was completely finalized by the highly apologetic local judge.

Elena happily brought Lily back to their small, quiet apartment, fully ready to start their peaceful life again.

They spent the entire sunny afternoon playing joyfully with toys and eating incredibly sweet vanilla ice cream.

After gently putting Lily to bed, Elena began quietly unpacking the very last bag of toys rescued from the mansion.

She affectionately pulled out Lily's absolute favorite stuffed bear, noticing a very strange, blinking red light hidden inside its plastic eye.

She quickly ripped the fabric seam open and pulled out a highly advanced, military-grade audio transmitter.

A small, neatly folded piece of highly expensive stationery immediately fell out of the cotton stuffing and onto the floor.

Elena carefully unfolded the handwritten note and instantly felt her blood turn completely into freezing ice.

"Victoria was just an easily manipulated employee," the terrifyingly neat handwriting ominously read.

"I will be coming to perfectly collect my valuable property very soon."
