Chapter 8 - The Father's Confession

"David!" Elena yelled frantically, rushing over to immediately grab her precious, trembling daughter.
David very weakly handed the crying toddler directly into Elena's desperate, eagerly waiting arms.
"My baby girl is safe in my arms now!" Elena wept openly, kissing Lily's tear-stained cheeks repeatedly.
Lily quickly clung to her mother's neck, finally quieting down into soft, deeply exhausted hiccups.
Officer Miller knelt quickly beside David, closely examining the deep, ugly cut on the wealthy man's head.
"What exactly happened to you, David?" Miller asked seriously, applying firm pressure to the wound with a nearby towel.
David groaned loudly in immense pain, his highly expensive designer suit completely ruined by the thick blood.
"I came home early from my business trip because a brave maid secretly texted me about Victoria," David explained weakly.
"I climbed the outside ladder to entirely avoid my own security cameras, wanting to see the absolute truth for myself."
"When I finally climbed through the window, Victoria was already standing in here."
"She hit me viciously with a heavy brass lamp and locked the door tightly from the outside."
Elena stared down at her wealthy ex-husband, a highly complicated mix of deep anger and profound pity washing over her.
"You trusted a literal monster over the loving mother of your child," Elena whispered incredibly bitterly.
David looked up at her slowly, tears of profound, overwhelming regret quickly pooling in his eyes.
"I was so completely wrong about her, Elena, and I am so incredibly sorry," he pleaded desperately.
