Chapter 2 - The Inside Source
Elena stared at the horrifying photograph on her glowing screen, utterly unable to breathe.
The terrifying message had clearly come from someone currently inside the secure mansion.
She immediately typed back, desperately asking who had sent the terrifying image.
The text reply came back just a few agonizing seconds later.
"I am one of the new maids, and Victoria is going to seriously hurt her."
Elena felt a deeply sickening knot form rapidly in her empty stomach.
She had heavily suspected emotional abuse, but seeing physical proof of a locked cage was entirely too much to bear.
Elena slammed her foot on the gas pedal, her hands shaking violently against the steering wheel.
She drove recklessly through the slick, flooded streets directly toward the local police precinct.
She prayed silently that someone in this highly corrupt town would actually listen to a desperate mother.
When she rushed frantically into the busy station, she loudly demanded to speak with Officer Miller.
Miller was a highly respected veteran cop and the only person in uniform she could completely trust.
She slammed her phone down onto his messy desk and showed him the horrific photographic evidence.
Miller studied the disturbing image carefully, his jaw tightening in obvious, barely suppressed anger.
"This is exactly enough probable cause for a search warrant, Elena," he said quietly but firmly.
"But we have to move incredibly fast before David's expensive legal team finds out what we are doing."
Miller turned quickly to his computer terminal to begin drafting the emergency legal documents.
Just as he started typing, his desk phone began to ring with a piercing, urgent tone.
Miller answered it, listened in total silence for a moment, and turned completely pale.

He slowly hung up the plastic receiver and looked at Elena with profound apology in his eyes.
"David just reported you for severe harassment, and the police chief is ordering your immediate arrest," Miller whispered grimly.
