Chapter 9 - The Final Collapse

Aidan let out a blood-curdling scream that echoed violently off the crystal chandeliers above us.
He scrambled backward like a terrified crab, trying desperately to find a place to hide.
"He is going to kill me, he is going to torture me and kill me!" Aidan babbled hysterically.
My mother simply stood frozen in absolute horror, realizing her entire life was completely and utterly destroyed.
Tiffany, who had been hiding quietly behind a large floral arrangement, finally broke into a dead sprint toward the exit.
Fiona remained completely still on the floor, staring blankly at the ceiling as her mind officially broke under the pressure.
I looked at the pathetic ruins of the family that had systematically abused me for thirty-two years.
They were completely bankrupt, facing federal prison sentences, and currently being hunted by a ruthless mafia boss.
For a brief, fleeting second, a tiny drop of pity formed deep inside my heart.
I took a slow step toward my father, wondering if I should ask Julian to call off the absolute destruction.
Julian immediately sensed my hesitation and gently placed a warm, incredibly strong hand on my shoulder.
"Do not pity the people who tried to bury you alive, my love," Julian whispered softly into my ear.
His words gave me the absolute clarity I needed to sever my emotional ties completely.
"You are absolutely right," I replied, turning my back on Aidan and my mother forever.
"Let us go home, Julian, because the smell of this room is finally starting to make me sick."
Julian smiled warmly, offering me his arm like a true, perfect gentleman.
"With pleasure, Mrs. Vance," he said loudly enough for my entire broken family to hear.
We walked proudly toward the massive oak doors, completely ignoring Aidan's pathetic, desperate begging behind us.
The four massive security guards formed a tight protective circle around us as we stepped out into the quiet hallway.
The hotel lobby was entirely empty, completely cleared out by Julian's highly efficient staff.
I took a massive, incredibly deep breath, feeling entirely free for the very first time in my entire existence.
The core conflict of my miserable childhood was completely resolved, and I had absolutely won.
We walked slowly toward the glass revolving doors, where a massive black limousine was waiting safely on the street.
Suddenly, Julian's head of security yelled a terrifying warning and violently tackled my husband to the marble floor.

I gasped in absolute horror as I looked up at the large glass windows of the hotel lobby.
A tiny, bright red laser dot was resting perfectly steady directly on the center of Julian's chest.
