Chapter 3 - The Waiter's Confession

The realization of Julian's words hit Marcus like a physical blow to the chest.

Marcus sobbed openly, burying his face in his hands right in front of the remaining guests.

Fiona stared at her new husband in absolute disgust and absolute horror.

"You told me your trust fund was worth fifty million dollars!" Fiona screamed at the sobbing man.

"It was, until my father made a terrible investment in a tech company that Vanguard Holdings intentionally crushed," Marcus confessed weakly.

My mother ran forward, trying desperately to pull Fiona away from the embarrassing scene.

"This is all your fault, Mabel!" my mother screeched, pointing a trembling finger at my stained dress.

"You have always been violently jealous of your sister, and now you have ruined her one special day!"

I finally stepped out from under Julian's protective arm, feeling a surge of pure, unadulterated confidence.

"I did not spill wine on myself, Mother," I stated calmly, staring her down for the first time in my life.

"Oh, please, you probably bribed a waiter to do it just to play the victim," Tiffany sneered from the sidelines.

Julian let out a dark, menacing laugh that echoed through the rapidly emptying ballroom.

"That is an incredibly interesting theory, Tiffany," Julian noted, gesturing to his head of security.

The tall guard walked back out into the hallway and returned dragging a very familiar young man by the collar.

It was the same waiter who had intentionally clipped my shoulder just ten minutes earlier.

The young man was trembling violently, his eyes darting frantically between Julian and my father.

"Please do not send me to jail, Mr. Vance," the waiter begged pitifully.

"I will only show you mercy if you tell the entire room exactly what happened," Julian commanded.

The waiter swallowed hard and pointed a shaking finger directly at the beautiful bride.

"She paid me one thousand dollars in cash before the reception started," the waiter confessed loudly.

Fiona gasped, taking a sudden step backward as the spotlight of guilt hit her squarely in the face.

"She told me to wait until her father made a toast, and then she wanted me to drench the ugly spinster in red wine," the waiter continued.

The few remaining guests gasped in unison, looking at Fiona with absolute repulsion.

My father's face contorted into a mask of desperate damage control.

"This boy is clearly a paid actor hired by Mabel to slander our good name!" Aidan shouted desperately.

Julian simply raised his tablet again and pressed a single button on the screen.

The massive projector screen behind the head table instantly flared to life, overriding the wedding slideshow.

The screen displayed crystal-clear security footage from the hotel kitchen.

The silent video clearly showed Fiona handing a thick envelope of cash to the exact same waiter.

Fiona buried her face in her hands, realizing there was absolutely no way to lie her way out of this trap.
