Chapter 7 - The Arrest

Marcus did not even try to fight back as the cold steel handcuffs locked tightly around his wrists.

Reginald and Eleanor stood frozen in absolute shock, watching their only son being treated like a common criminal.

"This is completely absurd, my son is a respected businessman!" Reginald bellowed, his face turning dark purple.

The lead officer pulled a thick, official warrant from his pocket and shoved it directly into Reginald's chest.

"Your son set up multiple offshore shell corporations to hide stolen real estate assets," the officer corrected him sharply.

Julian leaned down slightly, whispering directly into my ear so only I could hear him.

"I may have forwarded a few interesting financial files to the FBI this morning," Julian murmured with a devilish smirk.

I smiled back at him, feeling an incredible surge of warmth for the man who was ruthlessly defending my honor.

Fiona grabbed the police officer's arm, her perfectly styled hair now completely ruined and tangled.

"You cannot take him away on our wedding night, we have plane tickets to the Maldives!" Fiona shrieked in total panic.

The officer shoved her away effortlessly, looking at her with an expression of pure pity.

"You should probably call a divorce lawyer, ma'am, because he is going away for at least twenty years," the officer advised.

The police dragged a violently sobbing Marcus out of the ballroom, leaving a trail of absolute destruction in their wake.

Reginald turned his furious gaze back to Fiona, his eyes burning with intense, unbridled hatred.

"This is entirely your fault, you cursed my family with your filthy, low-class presence!" Reginald screamed at the bride.

He grabbed his wife by the arm, and the two wealthy elites stormed out of the hotel without looking back.

Fiona collapsed onto the floor, her lavish white gown soaking up the puddles of spilled champagne and red wine.

My mother ran over to comfort her golden child, glaring at me with a look of pure, murderous intent.

"Are you happy now, Mabel?" my mother spat viciously, her voice echoing in the nearly empty room.

"You used your billionaire husband to destroy your own flesh and blood out of petty jealousy!"

I looked down at them, feeling absolutely nothing but a deep, profound sense of closure.

"I did not force Aidan to steal, and I did not force Marcus to commit fraud," I replied with ultimate calm.

"I simply allowed the truth to finally see the light of day."

My mother stood up slowly, a twisted, desperate smile slowly spreading across her tear-stained face.

"You think you are so incredibly superior because you married into massive wealth," she whispered dangerously.

She pointed a shaking finger directly at my chest, preparing to play her absolute final card.

"But you are not even my real daughter, Mabel, and you have absolutely no right to judge this family."
