Chapter 1 - The Grand Entrance

The heavy oak doors of the Boston Plaza Hotel ballroom suddenly slammed open with a deafening crash.
The entire wedding party turned their heads in absolute shock.
Four towering men dressed in immaculate black suits marched into the room in perfect unison.
They quickly positioned themselves at the main exits, their hands resting cautiously near their earpieces.
My father halted his aggressive approach toward me, his face turning a sickly shade of pale.
"What is the meaning of this interruption?" Aidan demanded, trying to sound authoritative but failing miserably.
Nobody answered him.
Instead, the crowd parted like the Red Sea as a breathtakingly handsome man stepped over the threshold.
He wore a bespoke charcoal suit that radiated immense power and unimaginable wealth.
His sharp jawline and piercing gray eyes commanded instant, unquestionable obedience from everyone in his presence.
My mother dropped her crystal champagne flute, watching it shatter into pieces on the marble floor.
My perfect sister, Fiona, gasped loudly, her eyes wide with undisguised lust and confusion.
It was Julian Vance, the elusive billionaire CEO of Vanguard Holdings and the most feared corporate raider in America.
He ignored the murmurs of the Boston elite and walked directly toward my dark, lonely corner.
He stopped right in front of me, his cold eyes softening instantly as he looked at my ruined silk gown.
He reached into his pocket, pulled out a pristine white monogrammed handkerchief, and gently dabbed a drop of wine from my cheek.
"Are you hurt, my love?" Julian asked, his deep voice carrying clearly through the silent room.
The collective gasp from the three hundred guests sounded like a vacuum sucking the air from the ballroom.
Aidan stumbled forward, blinking rapidly as if he were trapped in a bizarre hallucination.
"Mr. Vance, there must be some mistake, as this woman is just my pathetic, spinster daughter," my father stammered nervously.
Julian slowly turned his head, fixing my father with a glare so terrifying it could freeze boiling water.
"You will address my wife with the respect she deserves, Aidan," Julian stated in a dangerously quiet tone.
The ballroom erupted into a frenzy of shocked whispers and absolute disbelief.
"Wife?" Fiona shrieked from the head table, her face twisting in jealous fury.
Julian ignored her entirely, wrapping a protective, heavy arm around my waist.
"Furthermore," Julian continued, looking around the lavishly decorated space.
"You have precisely ten minutes to evacuate your guests from this property."
Aidan puffed out his chest, trying to salvage the last shred of his ruined pride.
"You cannot kick us out, because I rented this ballroom for fifty thousand dollars!" my father shouted.

Julian offered a cruel, razor-sharp smile.
"You merely rented it, Aidan, but I bought this entire hotel twenty minutes ago, and you are currently trespassing on my private property."
