Chapter 5 - The Prenuptial Threat

Marcus's father, a terrifying man named Reginald, marched fiercely into the center of the ruined ballroom.
His wife, Eleanor, trailed closely behind him with a look of pure disgust on her heavily Botoxed face.
"Get up off your knees this instant, Marcus!" Reginald barked at his sobbing son.
Marcus scrambled quickly to his feet, wiping his tear-stained face with the sleeve of his expensive tuxedo.
Reginald turned his furious glare toward my utterly defeated parents.
"Your daughter is an absolute sociopath who staged a public assault at her own wedding," Reginald snarled.
"And it appears your family is completely bankrupt and utterly devoid of any social standing," Eleanor added viciously.
Fiona ran toward her new parents-in-law, her hands clasped together in desperate prayer.
"Please, Reginald, I love Marcus, and we are already legally married!" Fiona cried out.
Reginald pulled a thick stack of legal papers from his leather briefcase and threw them onto a wine-stained table.
"My lawyers drafted this emergency postnuptial agreement while we were standing in the hallway," Reginald announced coldly.
Fiona looked down at the documents, her perfectly manicured hands trembling with absolute dread.
"What does it say?" Fiona asked, barely able to speak above a terrified whisper.
"It states that if you ever file for divorce, you walk away with absolutely zero financial compensation," Reginald explained.
"Furthermore, it gives Marcus the legal right to annul this marriage tomorrow morning if your family's scandal ruins our corporate reputation."
My mother gasped, rushing forward to try and negotiate with the angry billionaire.
"You cannot force my daughter to sign away all her legal rights on her wedding day!" my mother protested wildly.
Reginald did not even flinch, staring at my mother like she was a disgusting insect.
"If she does not sign it right now, I will personally throw Marcus out of the family trust," Reginald threatened without hesitation.
Marcus turned to Fiona, his eyes completely hollow and desperate.
"Sign the paper, Fiona, or we are both going to end up living in a cardboard box," Marcus begged his bride.
Fiona looked at my father for help, but Aidan was still staring blankly at his own termination papers.
Realizing she had absolutely no allies left in the room, Fiona picked up a pen with shaking fingers.
She hastily scrawled her signature on every single page, tears ruining her expensive bridal makeup.
"There, it is done," Fiona sobbed, pushing the papers back toward her terrifying father-in-law.
Julian suddenly clapped his hands together, the loud sound echoing sharply through the tense room.
"Well, that was incredibly entertaining, but unfortunately, the fun is not quite over yet," Julian declared smoothly.
He snapped his fingers again, and a man carrying a thick leather binder walked through the swinging kitchen doors.
"I asked my forensic accounting team to look into how exactly Aidan afforded this extravagant wedding," Julian revealed with a wicked smile.
My father's head snapped up, his eyes widening in absolute, unadulterated terror.
"What did you find?" I asked my husband, already knowing it was going to be completely devastating.

Julian opened the binder and pulled out a stack of highlighted bank statements.
"It turns out your father embezzled exactly one million dollars from the corporate retirement fund to pay for these fancy flowers," Julian announced clearly.
