Chapter 7 - The Hunted Officer

Terrence stared at the hand-drawn map of his own police precinct.

Sinclair had been planning to infiltrate the station for months.

Terrence realized his corrupt captain was likely on the doctor's massive payroll.

He was no longer just a cop protecting a child, he was a hunted fugitive.

His police radio buzzed with a city-wide alert describing him as an armed and dangerous kidnapper.

Sinclair had successfully spun the story, claiming Terrence suffered a mental breakdown and stole his daughters.

Terrence knew he could not trust the local authorities with the evidence from the locker.

He needed federal intervention, so he drove to a secluded motel to contact an old FBI contact.

He used a payphone in the parking lot, dialing a number he had not called in five years.

Special Agent Vance answered on the second ring, sounding surprised but willing to help.

Vance instructed Terrence to meet him at an abandoned warehouse on the edge of the docks.

Terrence left the girls locked safely in the motel bathroom and drove to the meeting spot.

The warehouse was completely silent, illuminated only by the moonlight filtering through the broken roof.

Terrence walked cautiously inside, calling out his friend's name into the darkness.

He found Vance sitting in a chair in the center of the room.

Terrence sighed with relief and stepped closer to hand over the leather journal.

Then the clouds shifted, and the moonlight hit Vance's face.

The FBI agent's throat had been slashed, and he was already dead.

A red laser sight suddenly appeared squarely on the center of Terrence's chest.
