Chapter 3 - The Hospital Trap

The ambulance arrived at the emergency room with tires screeching against the wet pavement.

Terrence carried Charlotte in his arms while the paramedics rushed Delilah's stretcher through the sliding doors.

The chaos of the emergency department immediately swallowed them whole.

Nurses and doctors swarmed the stretcher, shouting out vitals and preparing intravenous lines.

Terrence tried to brief the attending physician, but a familiar, commanding voice interrupted him.

Dr Sinclair had beaten them to the hospital and was already barking orders at the staff.

The hospital staff deferred to him immediately, treating him like royalty rather than a suspect.

Terrence physically blocked Sinclair from entering Delilah's trauma bay, causing a massive scene.

The head of hospital security arrived and ordered Terrence to step down.

Terrence desperately called his police captain for backup, explaining the attempted murder.

His captain told him to stand down immediately, stating that Dr Sinclair was a prominent board member and untouchable.

Terrence watched helplessly as the attending doctor emerged from the trauma room with lab results.

The doctor announced that the toxicology screen came back completely clean, showing no trace of any poison.

Terrence looked like a crazy, rogue cop who had kidnapped a child for no reason.

Charlotte tugged urgently on Terrence's uniform sleeve.

She pointed a small, shaking finger toward the glass window of the trauma room.

She whispered that the nurse standing next to Delilah's bed was not a real nurse.

She said it was the same woman who helped their daddy lock their mommy in the basement last year.
