Chapter 1 - The Locked Door

Dr Douglas Sinclair yanked hard on the locked glass door of the police station.

Terrence stood firm behind the counter, keeping his hand close to his radio.

Charlotte whimpered and pulled her sick twin deeper into the shadows of the desk.

Douglas banged his fist against the reinforced glass, his face twisted in perfectly acted panic.

He shouted through the thick barrier, claiming he was a doctor and that his daughter needed her medication.

Terrence grabbed his radio and demanded an ETA on the ambulance.

The dispatcher confirmed the paramedics were turning onto the street right now.

Flashing red lights washed over the rainy parking lot, illuminating the doctor's furious expression.

Douglas ran directly toward the arriving ambulance, waving his arms to intercept the paramedics.

Terrence unlocked the door and sprinted out into the rain, determined to keep the man away from the medics.

He shouted for the EMTs to secure the child and ignore the frantic father.

Douglas turned to the paramedics and delivered a flawless, terrifying lie.

He claimed Delilah had accidentally ingested a lethal dose of digitalis and that the syringe in the police station contained the only antidote.

The lead paramedic froze, looking at Terrence with intense suspicion.
