Chapter 7 - The Extraction Plan

The grim reality of the impending press conference hung heavily in the air inside the speeding armored SUV.

David knew that if Vanessa successfully put Lily on a private jet to an overseas boarding school, he would never see his daughter again.

The boarding school was located in a country with absolutely no extradition treaties, operating as a legal fortress for the corrupt elite.

They had exactly four hours until dawn to breach the heavily guarded mansion, rescue the little girl, and completely destroy Vanessa's empire.

David spread a detailed architectural blueprint of the massive estate across the leather seats, illuminating it with a small tactical flashlight.

He pointed to a highly secure, subterranean drainage tunnel that connected the mansion's basement directly to the nearby mountain river.

"This is the only blind spot in the entire security grid, and it will take us straight into the underground wine cellar," David explained quickly.

Clara remembered the panic room in the cellar and realized this was the exact same route she had used to escape Marcus earlier.

She warned David that Marcus was likely still roaming the basement levels, highly armed and absolutely furious after being locked in the bunker.

David simply racked the slide of his tactical handgun, his eyes filled with a terrifying, cold determination that Clara had never seen before.

They arrived at the muddy banks of the rushing mountain river, the freezing rain masking the sound of their approach.

They waded through the icy, waist-deep water, pushing their way into the dark, echoing concrete pipe of the drainage tunnel.

The air inside the tunnel was thick and foul, smelling of rotting leaves and damp earth as they navigated the pitch-black maze.

After twenty grueling minutes of climbing, David finally pushed open the heavy iron grate that led directly into the dusty wine cellar.

The basement was eerily quiet, the emergency lights casting long, sinister shadows across the endless rows of expensive vintage bottles.

They moved silently up the wooden stairs, arriving at the massive kitchen doors just as the sun began to slowly rise outside.

Through the narrow glass window of the door, Clara could see dozens of reporters and news cameras setting up in the grand foyer.

Vanessa was standing near the grand staircase, wearing a beautiful black mourning dress and speaking softly to the corrupt lead detective.

She was flawlessly playing the role of the grieving widow, completely ready to sign the final custody papers on live television.

David signaled for Clara to stay hidden in the kitchen while he moved to flank the corrupt police officers stationed near the front doors.

Clara nervously watched him slip into the shadows of the dining room, admiring his bravery and sheer tactical precision.

Suddenly, a cold, heavy metal barrel was pressed forcefully against the back of Clara's head in the dark kitchen.

Marcus whispered directly into her ear, laughing softly as he clicked the safety off his powerful, silenced pistol.

"You really thought I would forget to check the only exit in the basement, you stupid little nanny?" Marcus sneered viciously.
