Chapter 3 - The Secret Vault

Clara watched in absolute horror as the memory card hissed and dissolved instantly into a puddle of toxic, bubbling liquid.

The only piece of evidence that could save Lily and expose a murder had just been destroyed right in front of her eyes.

Vanessa laughed a cold, echoing laugh, keeping the silver handgun aimed perfectly at Clara's rapidly beating heart.

She commanded the terrified nanny to walk slowly toward the heavy balcony doors and prepare to take a very tragic, fatal fall.

Clara knew that if she followed the evil woman's instructions, her death would be successfully staged as a desperate suicide.

As Vanessa took one step forward to open the glass doors, Clara noticed the safety mechanism on the handgun was still engaged.

Clara did not hesitate for a single second and threw the ruined teddy bear directly at Vanessa's arrogant face.

The sudden distraction caused Vanessa to flinch backward, giving Clara the perfect opportunity to dive toward the heavy dressing room door.

She scrambled out into the dark hallway, sprinting frantically toward the grand staircase as Vanessa screamed in pure rage behind her.

A deafening gunshot echoed through the massive mansion, shattering an expensive crystal chandelier just inches above Clara's head.

Clara threw herself down the carpeted stairs, ignoring the sharp, agonizing pain shooting through her bruised knees and elbows.

She knew she could not escape through the front doors because the private security guards would shoot her on sight.

She remembered David mentioning a reinforced panic room located deep in the underground wine cellar for emergency situations.

Clara raced through the expansive kitchen and threw open the heavy wooden door leading down into the damp, freezing basement.

She heard the heavy footsteps of armed security guards rushing into the foyer above her, responding to the terrifying sound of the gunshot.

She navigated the endless rows of dusty wine racks until she found the hidden steel door concealed behind a massive wooden barrel.

Clara punched in the emergency override code she had secretly memorized from David's private notebook, praying it had not been changed.

The heavy steel door hissed open, allowing her to dive into the pitch-black panic room just as the guards entered the cellar.

She slammed the door shut and engaged the internal deadbolt, finally collapsing onto the cold concrete floor in sheer exhaustion.

The panic room was completely soundproof, cutting off the terrifying noises of the armed men searching for her outside.

Clara fumbled in the dark until her hand found the emergency lighting switch mounted on the cold steel wall.

The room flooded with bright fluorescent light, revealing an array of survival supplies, communication equipment, and a massive metal safe.

Sitting directly on top of the heavily fortified safe was a sleek, black laptop connected to the mansion's internal network.

Clara opened the computer and quickly realized it was David's personal backup server, mirroring all the files in the estate.

She desperately typed in search commands, hoping that the hidden camera in the teddy bear had been wirelessly transmitting data to a cloud server.

Her hands shook violently as the screen loaded a hidden folder titled with the name of Lily's deceased biological mother.

Clara clicked the encrypted folder, and a massive list of high-definition video files instantly populated the bright screen.

The memory card Vanessa had destroyed upstairs was completely useless because the teddy bear had been live-streaming everything to David's own private server.

Clara eagerly clicked the most recent video file to finally watch the absolute proof of Vanessa's psychotic manipulation and violence.

Instead of showing the study, the video opened to a live, real-time feed of the very panic room Clara was currently sitting in.

The camera angle was coming from the ceiling, and as Clara looked up in absolute terror, she saw the tall, mysterious stranger standing right behind her.
